politics for the heartless

“Democracy has nothing to do with freedom. Democracy is a soft variant of communism, and rarely in the history of ideas has it been taken for anything else.”
Hans-Hermann Hoppe
the way a lot of libertarians deal with cops displays all the worst aspects of young white male libertarian activism
the privilege, the bad attitude, the rebellious teenage angst, and the god-damn self-righteousness
I look at interactions with cops the way I look at…

“you’re only 18, you’ll regret that tattoo when you’re older” my mom says as she hands me college applications so i can decide on the career i’ll have for the rest of my life
woah
“the career i’ll have for the rest on my life”. no, honey. the career, should you have one, may get you through some tuff times, you know, between the stints of doing whatever it is you really want to do.
the tattoo, on the other hand, may get in the way of landing that dream job if it’s not played right. but it won’t get you “through” anything.
not that i’m against tattoos.
but rethink that comparison. it nothing else, you’ve got that apples and oranges thing down pretty well.

Ignorantia juris non excusat
84% of cops say they have witnessed other officers use excessive force.
79% of cops feel the media is to blame.
hmmm….so they don’t teach these people about cause and effect?
excessive force=distrust of the law.
duh

the news

You live in a country knowing what’s expected of you, and what the punishments are if you don’t follow the rules. If you really don’t like the terms, most states do allow you to leave.
I fail to see the pro-liberty argument in this. This line of reasoning would, on its own, justify a totalitarian police state, so long as the preponderance of laws and regulations were clearly-written and well-promulgated. And if you don’t like your government controlling every aspect of your life, you can always leave!
If “what’s expected of you” involves spying on your family, friends, and neighbours; “what the punishments are” involves indefinite detention without trial or charge; and “the rules” involve a restriction on your every move, thought, word, and action, would you be okay with that? Or should “self-determination” go beyond electing your dictator?
I don’t like any terms that dictate I be taxed. Where should I leave to?
this makes no sense. last i checked, state jumping does not negate country rules. and really, just because someone knows the rules and consequences, does that make them right?
